ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION

Community Accountability Board: An alternative sentencing program for those who commit quality of life offenses. Neighborhood volunteers develop opportunities for offenders to repair harm to their victims and the community, including community service and financial restitution.

Community Service: Promotes social responsibility by giving offenders the option of repaying the community through service to approved government or nonprofit organizations.

Lewi Tonks Revolving Bail Fund: Helps low-income individuals avoid unnecessary pre-trial incarceration so they can maintain employment and rejoin their families.

Pre-Trial Diversion: Teaches first-time offenders about the consequences of criminal behavior through life skills workshops including conflict resolution, money management, decision-making, and tours of the Schenectady County Correctional Facility.

Re-Entry Program: Increases public safety by implementing nationally recognized evidence-based practices to coordinate the re-entry of individuals who are returning from state prison to Schenectady County.

Restitution: Ensures offenders repay their victims financially as an alternative to incarceration.

Youth Court:  A voluntary alternative to traditional sentencing in which first-time youth offenders who have admitted guilt appear before a jury of their peers for sentencing.
